Quilting and India Ink

September 18, 2008

NO, not combined! LOL Although that is a thought……..hmm……….but back to today.………

Today my customer picked up the Trinity Church quilt, so now I can post some pictures. This quilt will hang in the church to celebrate their 150th anniversary.

This quilt was ordered with “Half Binding”, that’s the brown around the edges. It’s ready for the customer to just turn the binding to the back and hand-stitch.

When I was working on this, I wanted the quilt design to sing, and the quilting to play a supporting role, so I chose SoFine thread in matching colors and a small stipple for the background. Each applique and was SID around, the border was echo’d. Some detail shots:

Now, about India Ink. For quite a while now this has been on my “want” list, but the cost was out of my price range. Well today a good friend of mine gave me a 50% off coupon for Michaels (she knows how much I love new art supplies!) and I immediately knew what I was going to get:

I LOVE THIS PEN! I’ve read about it, and wanted something I could use with watercolor. It’s refillable, and it glides so smoothly! Makes a sharp crisp line, and it feels so comfortable in my hand! I just had to play a little bit in my journal:

Yes, another tree. I’m trying to work on proportion and scale of tree roots. The trees here in my little bit of woods go straight into the ground, so this is trial and error drawing.

Of course there is ONE drawback to this pen…..DO NOT squeeze it when you are using it:

That’s the smear off my fingers when I squeezed it! Yes, India Ink does come off, if you rub it off before it has a chance to dry!

And that’s been my day today, good friends, quilting, and India Ink!

The quilt is awesome! And I just loved India ink when I was doing calligraphy …. the pens feel like they are ballpoints.
