It really was easy!

February 27, 2009

After months of struggling with my old printer, and months of worry about whether or not I could hook a new printer up to the network, I finally broke down a week ago and ordered a new printer.

I didn’t want to, but I had no choice.  The printer is not in the studio, it’s in my husband’s office.  And it would not print unless you fed it one sheet of paper at a time.  So every time I needed to print from the studio I had to send it to the printer, run over to the printer, and feed the paper in one by one.  Not very productive.

And not being one to easily change electronics (hey the newer it is the more confusing it can get!), I procrastinated, and did my research, and procrastinated a bit more.

Finally biting the bullet and buying this printer:

lexmar-4550-printerThe Lexmark 4550.  Why this one?  Because the price was in my range, and the reviews ALL said it was really easy to hook up to your wireless network.

So I waited while it was shipped, all the while wondering if I’ve gotten myself  in over my head.  Will I have to call my computer guy out to hook this up?  What have I done?

The printer came today and IT REALLY WAS EASY! Put in the installation CD, follow the screens, temporarily hook one cable to the computer and WA-LA!!!!!  It’s done!!!!   It’s hooked up!!!!  TO BOTH COMPUTERS!!!!!

I’m so proud of me!!!!  LOL    I’m off now to print out all those things I’ve been putting off for the last while!!!!!!

Sea Turtle piece links and creative styles

May 17, 2008

I’ve been working on a Sea Turtle piece. Rather than posting the same things twice, I thought I would provide a link to the FAB blog where I am writing about the piece and progress.
Sea Turtle beginning is here

Stage two, tyvek stage one, is here

And this mornings post, tyvek stage two, is here

If it seems like I am jumping back and forth between many projects, you’re right, I am. I have found for me the most productive way to work is to keep several projects going at once. Of course this takes up lots of room, but allows me to let each project sit and stew between stages. And it allows me to stay focused and not get distracted too much by the almost summer weather outside.

What’s your creative style? Do you like to work on one project start to finish before the next, or do you find yourself with several projects on the go at once?

Tenacious

May 14, 2008

Tenacious, adjective, meaning stubborn or persistent.

Hmmm, I think this may possibly apply to me.

By nature I am a slow methodical artist. I like to build things up in layers, one on top of the other. With my drawings and my textile pieces, I work one step at a time, allowing each stage to simmer before I move to the next. When I work with acrylics, I do the same thing. Occasionally, I will work quickly, in textiles, but I have already mastered the medium and know what to expect and what I can and cannot do for the results I want.

I have somehow gotten into my mind that I want to learn to master oils. And with my allergies I have had to move everything for the oils onto the back porch where there is no possiblity of odor lingering. Which means I need to work relatively quickly. And yet, I tenaciously persist in attempting to master this medium. Yes, I like to challenge myself.

This morning I decided to spend some time on the back porch and try another attempt at oils. And you know you’re absorbed in something when you finish and realize you put your mp3 player earphones into your ears, but never turned it on….and you didn’t even notice!

Today’s painting.

I have achieved a modicum of success in creating depth. I have accomplished creating a rock wall successfully. And I am starting to understand that I cannot, at this point, achieve the detail I want, with oil, in one sitting. Perhaps there is yet another technique I need to learn. And so, I persist.

Tenacious, yes, that may just describe me.
